Luxury Apartment in Edinburgh

In just over a month I’ll be touching down in Edinburgh for three weeks of cultural immersion. Auld Reekie, as it used to be known, is one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in Europe. Many of my recent posts have touched on intriguing aspects of this beguiling city, and maybe they’ve started you thinking about making a quick jaunt over to bonnie Scotland.

I’m happy to announce that I can help you out!

HomeAway Holiday-Rentals and Traveling Savage are offering one lucky reader/visitor the chance to win a week’s stay in a luxury two bedroom apartment in Edinburgh, property 714625, which is within 10 minutes walk from the famous Princes Street. Set in a great location for enjoying all that this vibrant city has to offer, this lovely apartment near the city center offers the best of both worlds.

With Wi-Fi access, underground parking, and access to a private gym and concierge service, this apartment has the feel of a luxury hotel, with all the benefits of home. There is a double bedroom with ensuite, a twin room and separate second bathroom, plus a comfortably furnished living room with flatscreen TV, DVD player, and iPod dock. French windows from the living room and the master bedroom lead to a large decked garden terrace, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing.

HomeAway Holiday-Rentals lists over 180 properties to rent in and around Edinburgh, and over 220,000 properties worldwide, from cozy cottages to large luxury villas and chateau.

  • No cash equivalent is available and the prize-winner is responsible for all travel and other costs, including any security or damage deposits required by the owner.
  • The prize is dependent on existing availability, excludes the period over Christmas and New Year, and must be booked within 12 months of receiving notification of the prize.

That’s it! Optionally, feel free to follow HomeAway Holiday-Rentals and Traveling Savage on Twitter and become a fan of our Facebook fan pages (here and here).

LaurenNo Gravatar February 17, 2011 at 10:11 AM

Of all the places I’ve been in Europe, the four days I was able to spend in Edinburgh were perhaps the best. Have you ever arrived in a city and it just felt right? That’s how it was last time. Everything about Edinburgh intrigues me and I cannot wait for my opportunity to go back. If I had the opprotunity, I would defintiely explore more of the history. I felt like last time I barely got at the surface of all that Edinburgh has to offer. There are so many places just filled with history and I would love the opportunity to just explore them all. I would probably do a repeat of more than one of the activities I did last time- definitely going back to Edinburgh castle – but I also just want to explore more of just the city. For a city that felt so much like coming home the first time I was there, there is still so much more to know.

Kate BossonsNo Gravatar February 17, 2011 at 9:51 AM

This would be a an amazing opportunity for us to take our 2 boys on holiday, we don’t have the option of flying or going somewhere too busy as our youngest is autistic. He needs to spend time in wide open spaces (which I’ve heard scotland has a lot of!) as he can’t stand crowds. It would be lovely for us to still be able to get away as a family.

Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities and I’d use the week getting to know it better

LisaNo Gravatar February 8, 2011 at 7:04 PM

We are already planning a trip to Edinburgh! Can’t wait to see the Royal Botanic Garden.

Rory MacLeanNo Gravatar February 7, 2011 at 6:46 PM

When I win I plan on exploring all the pubs that Edinburgh has to offer, and working on my best Scottish accent.

DaryleNo Gravatar February 6, 2011 at 8:03 PM

I would visit the 5 pubs you wrote about recently, and probably several more!

NatalieNo Gravatar February 5, 2011 at 6:05 PM

Perfect contest!

I’m hopefully visiting the UK this year and with a week stay Edinburgh I’d get a chance to extend my travel plans out from London where I’ll most likely be. I’d love to do some scotch tastings (I have a nice collection), tour some historic sites and hopefully get the timing right to see some festivals.

I haven’t been to the UK and can’t wait.

Have a great trip! πŸ™‚

JosephNo Gravatar February 5, 2011 at 7:00 AM

First of all I would hunt down (well, not hunt down but maybe find) J.K.Rowling and convince her to talk to me a little bit, or just take a picture (I’m harmless, I will not hurt anyone, I promise)…then I would immerse (and most likely get lost) in the beauty that is Edinburgh. Hopefully if there’s time (if there’s not than I will make some) visit some castles (the haunted ones would be on top of the list), pubs (just for Dad) and in the end hop over to the Isle of Skye!

RyanNo Gravatar February 4, 2011 at 9:33 AM

This is great! If I were to win this stay I would give it to my father for his 50th Birthday coming up next month. Please choose me and help me send my father off on a relaxing trip to Edinburgh! πŸ˜‰

Gillian @OneGiantStepNo Gravatar February 3, 2011 at 5:05 PM

Oooohhh, I’m in for sure!! I would surely be able to find a scotch I like in the land of scotch!! Cheers!

jenNo Gravatar February 3, 2011 at 1:06 PM

If I win I would spend my time making up for lost time, which I can’t get back, but if I could, would spend traveling.

Tiffany HarrisonNo Gravatar February 2, 2011 at 12:42 AM

Going back to Edinburgh would be like going to my second home. The people, the culture, the haggis–the hard part will be leaving!!

Emily HyndmanNo Gravatar February 2, 2011 at 12:40 AM

Hmm, I’d just have to use it for my honeymoon, should it be available. If not, I’d have to use it for another fantastic after my wedding, because neither I nor my fiance have been to Scotland yet πŸ™‚

Michael HodsonNo Gravatar February 2, 2011 at 12:32 AM

Hmmmm, Scotland. The plan is golf. No, pubs. No, sightseeing. Arrrgggg. OK. Golf in the a.m. Then sightseeing. The pubs. Or maybe pubs before sightseeing. Screw it, I’m just confused now.

Sarah PuckettNo Gravatar January 31, 2011 at 6:37 PM

I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland πŸ™‚

KymriNo Gravatar January 31, 2011 at 1:09 PM

I would definitely spend a week enjoying the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and I’d love to photograph and blog about various performances and events.

MattNo Gravatar January 31, 2011 at 3:15 AM

I’d eat haggis until I popped.

AlexisNo Gravatar January 31, 2011 at 12:17 AM

I just got my UK working visa, so I would spend the week applying for jobs and networking with the locals

MichelleNo Gravatar January 31, 2011 at 12:07 AM

I would love to return to Scotland so I can spend more than a day in Edinburgh – walking the cobblestone streets, touring the castle, strolling through museums, taking a ridiculous number of photographs, and devouring delicious food and bevarages (whiskey, anyone?). Plus, I must visit the surrounding countryside. Cheers!

CamNo Gravatar January 30, 2011 at 4:25 PM

Great contest! Would love to visit Edinburgh again… we went in the winter last time, so it would be nice to experience in the summer!

TaraNo Gravatar January 30, 2011 at 2:41 PM

I have traveled the world but have never made it to Scotland, I would love to take my family there!

VivianNo Gravatar January 30, 2011 at 2:32 PM

A revisit to Edinburgh would give me an opportunity to sip a dram or two of whiskey and take a train up to the Morays where my ancestors lived.

William WallaceNo Gravatar February 15, 2011 at 1:24 PM

You might want to learn how to spell it first

JulNo Gravatar January 30, 2011 at 12:45 PM

I would bring my new travel easel and paint up a storm. Edinburgh has such picturesque architecture.

Niall McTeagueNo Gravatar January 30, 2011 at 7:45 AM

Thoroughly recommend Edinburgh – I live in Glasgow and never tire of visiting it. You have to experience the Fringe too – awesome atmosphere 24/7.
Maybe see some of you there. Love doing photography there too.

PoiNo Gravatar January 30, 2011 at 6:31 AM

Like last time I was in Scotland, I would spend most my time in the pubs trying out all the different tasty bitters!

JenNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 5:09 PM

I would drink scotch with my boyfriend.

Brenna [fabuleuxdestin]No Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 2:56 PM

My roomie is Scottish and I’m dying to get there to learn more about his culture. Would love love love to win this trip!

Keith SavageNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 5:37 PM

I just want to clarify that this prize is for a week’s stay in a luxury apartment and does not include travel and other costs.

Cathy SweeneyNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 1:26 PM

This is a great contest. I’ve never been to Edinburgh, so my time would be very well spent seeing the sights, eating, drinking – whatever I can fit in! (I’d also love to meet @jools_octavius if he was in town!)

gregoryNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 1:06 PM

If I win this, I’m gonna hang out with @jools_octavius and tour some of the spots that I’ve read about in the Ian Rankin/Inspector Rebus novels. I’d also like to drink at the Oxford Bar.

Tarek massudNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 12:03 PM

andiNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 8:49 AM

SteveNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 7:13 AM

Turn off my BlackBerry, wander aimlessly, fill up a couple of memory cards with photos, eat, drink and enjoy

NikkiNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 2:27 AM

Have many close friends in Scotland and would LOVE to spend as much time with them as possible! This would give me just the opportunity to do so!

AnthonyNo Gravatar January 29, 2011 at 1:38 AM

Swanky! I’d run the Edinburgh 10k, then celebrate on the night with ironic drunken debauchery. Then walk it off in the morning to a wee visit of Great Friar’s Bobby. If Edinburgh doesn’t captivate you-check your heartbeat.

KrisNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 10:20 PM

I would hunt for the best scotch whiskey in town!

GlobetrottergirlsNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 7:27 PM

Awesome competition!!

We’ve jsut signed up for the HomeAway newsletter – why do we want to go back to Edinburgh?

We didn’t manage to sample all the whiskeys in the whiskey destillery last time we were there, so we HAVE TO go back and finish this task. We also heard that there is a vegetarian version of Haggis (how??) which we’d love to try, and see what else we find time for (other than drinking, eating and enjoying the luxurious apartment πŸ˜‰ …)

Matt HopeNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 4:50 PM

I’ll already be in London later this year for work, so this would be a nice break from things!

Geeky TravelerNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 3:44 PM

I’ve always wanted to go there.

Castles, Whiskey and Bagpipes. Sounds like heaven to me.

ShannonNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 3:43 PM

I would love to use the power of twitter to have people suggest things for me to do. I think it would be a kick in the pants to have them decide where to go, what to see and where to eat!

ChristineNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 2:19 PM

I would love to delve deep into my Scottish descent. A trip to Edinburgh would be delightful–I picture pubs, green countryside, a bustling city…

Tim KubichekNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 2:11 PM

If I win, my friend Chuck and I will tour the country in style while sampling as much of the local food and drink as possible!

JessicaNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 12:17 PM

Wow, If I were to win I would spend hours walking through the city getting to know the people, as well as the sights.

AndyNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 12:09 PM

I’d love to go to the festival. Also go on a ghost walk tour and stock up on some Edinburgh rock!

AnaNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 11:59 AM

My husband and I got married last July and wanted to go to Scotland on our honeymoon. Alas, it did not work out, so if I win I take take him on a belated honeymoon!

JessicaNo Gravatar January 28, 2011 at 11:54 AM

I would get to explore all of the things I missed the first time!
